ADSS 10.137 Angelo Rotta to Luigi Maglione

On the same day as Rotta sent this telegram to Rome, the concentration of Hungarian Jews outside of Budapest began.

I received your telegram 222. (1)

I have already intervened with the Hungarian Government, in the name of the Holy See to obtain mitigations of the anti-Jewish decrees.  The actions of the Apostolic Nunciature … have obtained only … special modifications for the baptised.  Given the current environment I do not believe it opportune to take further steps. (2)
